Hiking above treeline in the winter can be dangerous with high winds, whiteouts and just plain nasty conditions. That is is why it is important to bring the right clothing to face the worst possible conditions.
But what is the right clothing? Below is a thinglink picture that shows you what works for me when I go above treeline during winter in the White Mountains. Just scroll over the picture to see a description and link to each piece of clothing that I rely on for above treeline winter hiking. This setup has served me well while moving in high winds as well as subzero temperatures.
I should stress that this gear has worked well for me but it might not be the perfect combination for you.
What is your ideal layering system for winter hiking?
I would like to thank Hendrik Morkel from Hiking in Finland for inspiring me to try Thinglink pictures.

Don't know if its an issue on my end, but the picture does not seem to provide any information when I hover over it. You look pretty badass regardless!
